The Story Of It All
Working with noted Santa Fe producer and guitarist Jacy Oliver, this album of songs has been a labor of love for both men. Dave teamed with Jacy to see if together they could push the singer-songwriter genre into some less-than-familiar territory. They took the time needed both in the writing and recording of the songs. The project was started before JanuaryRising, continued through the work on that album and picked up in earnest after its release. With challenging subjects ranging from love with a time travel element (Another You Another Me) to his mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s (Twilight Of Reason), Dave put a lifetime of experience into the lyrics and he’ll be writing more about the back story to each of the songs on his blog on this site from time to time.
From the provocative opening track God Ain’t Listening Any More to the hard-won acceptance of the closing track That’s Life, Dave takes the listener on an emotional journey that had to be lived before it could be written. JanuaryRising features a host of talented musicians including the deft keyboard work of co-producer Peter Farrell. The CD comes with a 20-page sampler of Dave’s award-winning poetry.

Beneath A Flagless Moon
Missing are the rock accompaniments of bass, drums and electric guitars. In their place are tenderly crafted acoustic arrangements of guitars, piano and even Hopi flute on one song. Recorded by Dave in his own Santa Fe studio, these songs are almost naked in an emotional sense. But as one review said, “Dave makes the personal seem universal.”
Raised In Vain & Afterthought
Recorded in New York before Dave moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, this well-received debut CD features players such as Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan’s band) and Shawn Pelton (Saturday Night Live Band) as well as the gifted guitar work of Craig Snyder who also produced the album.
Free with Raised In Vain is a second disc – Afterthought – featuring six gentler songs highlighting the acoustic guitar work of Dave and Craig.
This four-track disc features Dave’s lyrics set to music by his long-time friend and fellow songwriter Jeff Shattuck. Jeff asked Dave if he had any lyrics for which he’d never written music. Dave sent Jeff these four songs and this memorable recording was the result. It features some of the best session players in San Francisco.
