YESTERDAY’S EYES
There’s a story to be told
Of dark and dust
But the story keeps on changing
As all stories must
History we know is part truth and part lies
And I’m seeing it all
Through yesterday’s eyes
There’s a hero growing old
With nowhere to go
No battles to fight
No bravery to show
There are things that we know and things we surmise
And I’m seeing it all
Through yesterday’s eyes
There are people we trust
And those who we don’t
Things that we’ll do
And things that we won’t
We all know the dreams the daylight denies
And I’m seeing it all
Through yesterday’s eyes
You can ride the waves of sorrow
Chase glory as it flies
But you can only see tomorrow
Through yesterday’s eyes
There are no signs pointing
The way out of here
The paths to the exit
Are all cloaked in fear
Some things we take for granted the rest we improvise
And I’m seeing it all
Through yesterday’s eyes
