From 2017 this is Their World Now. This is one of the songs that became the album Arcana (The Lost Songs) – which is called that because the recording sessions were lost to a massive corruption of files and all I was left with were 21 rough demos I had mixed. At the time I couldn’t face starting over so my dear friend Rob Eaton mastered the demo mixes as best he could, and I put them out in that form. For this reason, this track is all me – vocals, guitar, and guide string parts that were always meant to be replaced by real violins and cellos.
The song was inspired by seeing a young girl in a Spanish city and – feeling no connection whatsoever with how she was obsessed with her own reflection, pouting and posing – realizing I was now an old man.
The lyrics…
THEIR WORLD NOW
We became invisible quite some time ago
But ah we once were men let the record show
We blazed our paths through time until time was done with us
Now our replacements ask we go without a fuss
We look at the young girls and our hearts must make a vow
To never say a word ’cause it’s their world now
Once we were the heroes of the stories that we write
Reshaping everything changing day and night
No shortage of excuses as we rocketed through years
We had many ways to calm our fears
We look at the young girls and our hearts must make a vow
To never say a word ’cause it’s their world now
There is a certain calm that only time can bring
We’d trade it in a heartbeat for one final fling
One trip around the passions ah that we’d like to take
To feel the flames of new love to feel the old heart break
Look at the young girls and our hearts must make a vow
To never say a word ’cause it’s their world now
