A Holiday Thought

Posted: December 5, 2011

From a blog I read:

"I don't mean to hate on Martha Stewart, but she is, in part, to blame. She and her entertaining empire, leading us to feel as though we are less than if our holidays – hell, our lives – are anything less than camera-ready. She, last I heard, has a staff of about 600. I have, approximately, me."

Happy Holidays to all the wonderful people I already know, all the ones I met recently and the unknown friends who have said such nice things about my songs and poems online and in emails.

My wish for you all is…be yourselves, be simple, be calm, be happy. Most of the pressure in life, as so eloquently expressed above, comes from outside ourselves. It's always an option. There's no rule that says you have to listen.

Even for us non-believers there is something special about the end of one year and the beginning of another. It's a time of reflection. So I hope you all look back on the year we are leaving and see that much is going on in our world that makes little sense. We are – in this country in particular – surrounded by would-be important people who, quite simply, do not merit being listened to. Dear old Martha is not even close to the tip of that particular iceberg.

So, as my song below suggests, use this time of year to look into your heart of hearts. I have total faith we will all find the best of ourselves there.
